Uncle Travis' Birthday

Today is Uncle Travis' birthday so we went to dinner to celebrate. (Uncle Travis is John's brother.)

John David had fun playing with his cousins, Michael and Malachi, before the food arrived. They were so sweet to share their toys with him. Malachi is very nurturing and loves to help "take care" of John David. Michael and Malachi are twins and they are 3 1/2 years old.

Our Little Sport

John David loves life. He is such a happy baby and he is very content much of the time. His latest showing of his love for something is to squeal with his eyes squinted. I caught him doing this while he was playing with a volleyball the other day. He would get the ball, throw it, squeal and then crawl towards it to do it all over again. It's amazing to me that we never had to show him what to do with a ball. He got a ball from the Easter Bunny (one of the $1.49 ones from Kroger/K-Mart/Walmart, etc.) and immediately knew to throw it. And that was when he was just 7 months old.

He loves to hang from the bar on his play set out back. Of course he can't yet hold himself on it, but loves for John or me to let him hang from it and then swing as if he were a gymnast in training.

On a recent shopping trip to IKEA, we discoverd his love for tunnels. They had one on display and he must've crawled through it 10 times. They were out of ones to purchase, but I found one about a week later at Target. It's in our playroom now and he loves to be chased in or out of it.

Whether he is throwing balls, hanging from the swing set, or crawling through tunnels, our little sport is always on the go!

Apple of God's Eye

Harrison Charles Springs was born in the wee hours of April 25, 2006 to Kimberly and Jason Springs. A few weeks ago we got to meet the little blessing when he and Kimberly came for a visit. He is such a good baby and really cute too! Meredith and Cole came to see him as did Lara, Lexi, Austin, Aiden and Granny (my mom). It was a full house! He did great with all of the kids running around him, just hanging out in the swing. I have to say Kimberly did quite well too - don't know if I would've been that calm! But it was such a blessing to have everyone together.

You see, Kimberly, Meredith and I are living the lives we dreamed about as young girls - to be married to the man of our dreams and to be blessed with children. I think we all imagined that the children would include some girls, but so far, that hasn't been God's plan. Meredith and Mark are expecting a baby boy in October and that will be their 2nd boy. We have discussed it and decided that it was part of God's plan to bring us closer together and closer to Him - having boys increases your prayer life!

Harrison has a bib that boasts: "Apple of God's Eye". Isn't it great as a believer, to rest in the fact that we are the Apple of God's Eye? He knitted us together in our mother's womb and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. One of my favorite passages of scripture is Psalm 139. In the New International Version it reads:
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

My Lil' Rapper...we had gone to the grocery store and the sun was shining so bright that mommy put this hat on me in the parking lot. She forgot to take it off and when we got home, it had made it's way to the side of my head, making me look like a little rapper! (April 21, 2006, 7 months old) Posted by Picasa

He loved feeding the animals (and eating a few crackers himself) and wasn't scared of any of them. He is 8 months old in these pictures.
